The benefits of Yoga for stress relief
We all carry stress — whether it’s from work, family life, or just the general busy-ness of being human. The good news is, yoga offers a beautiful antidote. It gives us time to pause, breathe, and reconnect with our bodies in a gentle, supportive way.
How Yoga helps ease stress
Yoga combines movement, breathwork, and mindfulness, which helps calm the nervous system and reduce the fight-or-flight response. Over time, this not only makes us feel more relaxed but can also improve sleep, digestion, and our ability to handle daily pressures.
The science behind it
Studies show that regular yoga practice can lower cortisol (the stress hormone), reduce anxiety, and improve mood. Even a short session (like 10-15 minutes of gentle movement and breathing) can make a big difference.
My favourite stress-relieving yoga tools
Alternate Nostril Breathing (Nadi Shodhana): Helps calm the mind and balance energy.
Seated Forward Fold: Encourages rest and inward reflection.
Legs-Up-The-Wall Pose (Viparita Karani): Soothes tired legs and slows the heart rate.
Guided Relaxation: Taking 5 minutes in Savasana can reset your whole day.
Stress relief at Rural Yoga
Each of my classes is designed with care to help you unwind, stretch out tension, and leave feeling better than when you arrived. We move slowly, breathe deeply, and always finish with time for stillness.
